Constantly inspired by the changing urban landscape around me, I am intrigued at the effects of nature on a structure. Space and stability alongside texture and value are the underpinnings of my prints and drawings. Visually and conceptually I play with a balance and rhythm between the rawness of the city and the abstract. The recognizable imagery encourages the viewer to enter the space, while the abstract challenges the perception of space.
When creating I begin with one image, adding on and working intuitively through the mark making and carving processes to determine the next stage. A certain amount of flexibility is inherent when working on a printing plate. At times, the reaction of the surface determines the next step. My work lends itself to working in a series and I tend to work on more than one image at a time.
I have a strong interest in sustainable art and materials. Currently I am also creating a series of collagraphs printed on upcycled denim.
