HOLLY E BROWN/
Continually inspired by the changing urban landscapes around me, I am intrigued at the effects of nature on a structure. Space and stability alongside texture and value are the underpinnings of my prints and drawings.
When I begin with an image, I work intuitively through the mark making and carving processes. At times, the reaction of the layered surface balances and rhythm between the rawness of the manmade and the abstract.
I have a strong passion to work with sustainable materials, in particular I use 100 % recycled fiber board. In addition to paper I am also printing on repurposed denim. I find the denim tells its own story and the washes and wear patterns of its previous owner inform my images by providing a natural range of values. I am currently developing a process to work with inks made from textile waste using Recycrom pigments from Officina 39, Italy.
